Special Edition on The Ninth Postgraduate Course on “Surgery of The Thoracic Aorta” in Bologna

The Ninth Postgraduate Course on “Surgery of The Thoracic Aorta” was held in Bologna, Italy on November 13th−14th, 2017. The Course took place in a very relaxed and casual atmosphere permitting participants to interact openly and exchange opinions and experiences with invited national and international faculty. To capture the very diverse mix of aortic innovations and cultivate this to Journal of Visualized Surgery (JOVS) worldwide readership, we thought of transpiring the two days course into a Special Issue. We are pleased and honored to have a dedicated Special Issue that reflect on the wealth of expertise and educational merits perceived from this very eminent international conference gathering that take place in Bologna biannually. The issue is Guest Edited by Professor Roberto Di Bartolomeo and Professor Davide Pacini and Dr. Mohamad Bashir. It aims to discuss the open, hybrid, transcatheter and endovascular techniques employed during operations on the thoracic aorta. The layout of the Special Issue was divided into different schemes reflecting the trends as seen separately in different aortic stream. The readiness of innovative device technology and the shrewdness of experienced surgeons are highlight in carefully selected topics. This was a mere reflection of the actual Symposium programme which also included a number of live surgery demonstrations in order to illustrate state-of-the art procedures and technologies. JOVS were fortunate enough to launch a Prize for “The 10 Best Video” presented at the Symposium. The videos will be provided as a supplement to this Special issue depicting high quality surgery and case scenarios from world renowned surgeons. We bring to you an issue of high quality, not only the in-depth sharing of research but also the techniques and skills via surgical videos and high-quality articles. We hope you enjoy reading the thoughts and concepts from worldwide renowned surgeons who were active members of the National International Faculty at the Ninth Postgraduate Course on “Surgery of The Thoracic Aorta” in Bologna.
