Dr. Adrian Ooi was a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) prior to joining Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. He was also a visiting consultant at National University Hospital Singapore (NUHS) and at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). He graduated from National University of Ireland, and completed his surgical residency in Cambridgeshire, and Wessex Deanery for cardiothoracic surgery in England. Dr. Ooi is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and worked as a cardiothoracic surgeon at University Hospital Southampton before being invited to Singapore in 2009.
Dr. Ooi has performed more than 3000 adult and pediatric cardiothoracic surgeries, including over 500 Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS). He pursued a pure minimal invasive approach and for the last few years, performed all thoracic procedures by Uniportal VATS. Dr. Ooi performed the first uniportal lobectomy at NHCS and uniportal thymectomy in Singapore.
Dr. Ooi is currently the immediate Past President of the Singapore Thoracic Society (STS). He was also the Programme Director for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I) surgical residency training in Singapore, and the Board Member & VATS Instructor for Asian Thoracoscopic Surgery Educational Programme (ATEP) and the Society of Minimal Invasive Thoracic Surgery (SMITS), educating and training the next generation of surgeons performing minimal invasive procedure. In addition, Dr. Ooi was also an Examiner and Faculty for Advanced Nursing Certification in Singapore, and Clinical Tutor for undergraduate in 2 Singapore medical schools.Dr. Ooi has been an invited speaker for many conferences across Europe and Asia Pacific, in addition to performing live surgery in many countries. He became the first none Japanese-Korean surgeon to be invited by the prestigious Asia Thoracic Surgical Club in 2011. His interests include uniportal thoracic procedures and robotic cardiothoracic surgery. He is actively involved in clinical research, with peer-reviewed publications, and numerous international presentations. He is also a journal reviewer for Annals of Thoracic Surgery and European Journals of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
