Dr. Kobayashi graduated from Osaka University Medical School in 1980. After cardiovascular residency, he studied heart transplantation in Chicago Children’s Hospital and cardiac surgery in UAB. After finishing training in USA, Dr. Kobayashi became a staff surgeon in National Cardiovascular Center where about 1,000 open heart surgery has been performed. His major is adult cardiac surgery. He is interested in off-pump CABG (OPCAB), mitral valve repair, and TAVI. Dr. Kobayashi has started OPCAB in 2000 and 93% of CABG was done by total arterial OPCAB. Total arterial OPCAB has been performed in more than 1,500 cases. They have performed MVP in more than 500 patients since 1992. The technique for MVP is resection and suture for posterior leaflet prolapse and chordal replacement with Gore-Tex sutures for anterior leaflet prolapse. MICS MVP was started in 2011 with or without robotic system. TAVI program was initiated in 2011 with CoreValve clinical trial in Japan. Recently Dr. Kobayashi have started the combined OPCAB and direct aortic TAVI.
