Dr. Kochar earned his medical degree in India. He then underwent further training in general surgery for 5 years in the United Kingdom, followed by 2 years in Colon and Rectal surgery at Whipps Cross University Hospital, London, United Kingdom. After moving to the United States in 2010, Dr. Kochar completed a second general surgery residency at the University of Illinois Metropolitan Group of Hospitals in Chicago. He then went on to complete his Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago in 2016. He is currently a Colon and Rectal surgeon at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, in Chicago, USA. His surgical activity is primarily focused on the surgical treatment of benign and malignant pathology of the gastrointestinal tract using minimally invasive techniques and robotics. He is actively involved in teaching and supervision of medical students, surgery residents and fellows. Since 2017, he is Clinical assistant professor of surgery at University of Illinois at Chicago. He has published > 25 peer-reviewed articles and contributed book chapters in surgical textbooks. His research interests are in clinical and outcomes research. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American College of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
