Preface

VATS and RATS lobectomy up to date: clinical and experimental evidences

VATS lobectomy has been representing the gold standard treatment in early stage “non-small cell lung cancer” (NSCLC) for the last 15 years. Never before has technology influenced so much the diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in thoracic surgery. As a consequence of this, a continuous and meticulous and frequent technological updating is necessary. In this light Italian VATS group has decided to organize a Meeting of international experts coming from Italy, Austria, Germany, England and the USA, with the aim to present clinical and experimental studies of different centers in order to update the international literature on this topic and share different international experiences on diagnosis and treatment of NSCLC.

This special issue will present local and multicenter experiences, based on clinical or experimental studies of different centers performing VATS and RATS lobectomy on the following topics: Lymphadenectomy during VATS lobectomy in NSCLC; ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) & FAST TRACK; Tips and tricks in VATS lobectomy; Technical evolution; VATS—segmentectomy; Intraoperative complications during VATS lobectomy; Robotic thoracic surgery.

We appreciate the commitment of the eminent experts, we praise the brilliant results obtained and we are honored to present our effort to the international scientific community.
